Additional incentives offered for reporting deposit accounts linked to illegal sites

Korea Sports Leisure has reaffirmed that it will pay rewards of up to KRW 200m to individuals who report illegal sports gambling activities, according to The Chosun Daily. The company, which operates Sports Toto under the Seoul Olympic Memorial National Sports Promotion Corporation, said the incentive programme is designed to reduce social harm linked to illegal betting operations.

The reward system is managed through the “illegal sports toto reporting center,” which allows citizens to report operators, users, promoters and other related violations of the National Sports Promotion Act. Reports can be submitted via the center’s website or by calling the hotline 1899-1119.

To report an illegal gambling site, individuals must verify their identity, submit the site’s URL and provide supporting information such as login credentials or referral details, along with evidence. Approved reports may receive KRW 15,000 per case, capped at KRW 1.5m per person, based on a review by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

Separate rewards are available for reporting deposit accounts linked to illegal gambling operations. These reports can earn KRW 100,000 per case with no stated cap, subject to official deliberation. However, authorities noted that in cases involving sites with automated cloning and URL regeneration functions, only the first verified reporter may qualify for full rewards.

A Korea Sports Leisure official said illegal sports gambling continues to cause rising social damage each year. The company stated it will maintain the reward programme and encourage public participation to promote a healthier sports betting environment.
