Novomatic Romania has issued a position statement supporting recent action by Romania’s National Gambling Office, ONJN, to strengthen oversight and transparency in the country’s gambling sector.
In the statement, the operator said it welcomed initiatives designed to reinforce the control framework, describing stronger monitoring standards and action against non-compliant practices as necessary for the market’s long-term development.
Novomatic Romania said integrity, tax compliance and player protection are becoming more important to the credibility of the industry, adding that measures aimed at eliminating non-compliant behaviour should help support a more sustainable market environment.
The operator, which said it has been active in Romania for more than 35 years, also restated its support for a regulated business environment based on legal compliance, fair competition and consumer protection.
According to the statement, Novomatic Romania was among the first operators in the country to promote responsible gaming and has worked with authorities on efforts to combat illegal gambling and support a regulated framework.
It also referred to the wider Novomatic Group’s internal compliance structure, stating that its organisational model is based on compliance, ethics and fraud prevention, supported by internal processes intended to ensure regulatory compliance and prevent illegal conduct.
Novomatic Romania said its position includes support for strict compliance with legal and fiscal requirements, transparency in operational and financial reporting, cooperation with regulators, action against the black market and measures linked to responsible gaming and player protection.
The operator also said a balanced framework is needed, combining effective regulation, meaningful oversight and responsible operators, while arguing that stronger monitoring capabilities and digitalised control systems are important to ensure compliant operators are not placed at a disadvantage.
The statement further called for a predictable legislative framework that allows operators to function under transparent conditions while contributing to the state budget and local economy.
Novomatic Romania said it remains open to working with authorities and the wider sector to strengthen integrity standards and public trust. It also directed readers to the official ONJN website for the statement issued by ONJN President Vlad-Cristian Soare and the findings of the investigation.
Romania’s regulatory debate has continued to widen in recent weeks. Earlier this month, authorities discussed a draft proposal to create a single self-exclusion system across online platforms and land-based venues, while also considering stricter enforcement powers and tougher penalties tied to illegal gambling activity.
The statement also placed emphasis on operational and financial reporting transparency as part of its compliance commitments
