Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), in partnership with the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) and the University of Brasília (UnB), has launched a free online course aimed at educating consumers on the risks associated with betting, particularly in relation to financial management and debt.
Titled “Consumer rights of bettors and betting sites: beyond the game”, the 30-hour program is designed to provide a structured overview of the fixed-odds betting market while equipping participants with practical tools to better understand their rights and responsibilities within a regulated environment.
The course is divided into five modules, covering topics such as the fundamentals of betting, consumer rights within the .bet.br ecosystem, responsible gambling practices and the financial and psychological risks associated with betting behaviour.
A key focus is on preventing over-indebtedness by encouraging informed decision-making and greater awareness of spending patterns.
According to SPA data, approximately 25.2 million Brazilians placed bets on authorized platforms in 2025, with men accounting for 68.3% of users. The figures show not only the reach of the sector but the growing importance of consumer protection measures.
By offering free and certified training, the Federal Government aims to strengthen financial literacy among users and mitigate potential harm linked to increased accessibility of betting platforms.
The course is available online and open to all consumers, particularly those already engaged with betting platforms or considering participation. Registrations remain open until 5 April, with classes scheduled to run from 7 April to 11 May.
Participants who complete the course successfully will also receive a digital certificate issued by UnB.
Between December 2025 and March 2026, more than 326,000 individuals opted into Brazil’s self-exclusion platform, closing betting accounts and blocking advertising exposure
