Harris Bookmaking failed to mention the self-exclusion register in emails and on websites

The company has received a formal warning from the ACMA

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued a formal warning to Harris Bookmaking, trading as Chasebet.

An investigation by the ACMA found that websites and promotional material sent by Harris Bookmaking did not mention the national self-exclusion register, BetStop, as required by the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

A player provided ACMA with three emails dated from July 2025 that promoted wagering services offered by Harris Bookmaking that did not contain a single reference to BetStop.

Nor did the marketing material explain that BetStop is the national self-exclusion register or provide a hyperlink to the BetStop website.

Harris Bookmaking submitted a statement to ACMA explaining that this was due to an unintended software consolidation error, which had since been rectified.

However, in August 2025, investigators examined Chasebet and found that this website also did not contain any references to BetStop, an explanation of this service or a hyperlink to the register.

Harris Bookmaking explained that this must have been caused by the same issue that caused all of this information to be omitted from its marketing emails.

In response to this, the ACMA has formally warned Harris Bookmaking about contravening the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

After the investigation was concluded, it seems that Harris Bookmaking fixed the issue and reinstated information about BetStop on its Chasebet website and in marketing emails.

If Harris Bookmaking breaks the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 again, the ACMA may carry out further enforcement action against the operator.

In a similar case, the ACMA took action against Winners Bookmaking after it continued to send promotional emails to a customer, even after they had registered with BetStop and closed their account with the operator.

Interestingly, while these emails seemed to be linked to Winners Bookmaking, they contained grammatical errors and were ultimately unbranded.
