Owned by Penn Entertainment, it seems that theScore Bet is preparing to launch in Alberta, Canada.
According to the company website, an Alberta launch is “finally happening” and pre-registration is open for residents.
Alberta is launching its regulated iGaming and sports betting market on 13 July 2026, which would expand the Canadian online gambling ecosystem.
However, those in the industry will remember the launch of Ontario’s gambling jurisdiction in April 2022, and how the stiff competition led many operators to withdraw from the region just months after it opened.
Officials are expecting a similar level of competition between major brands such as DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM.
Considering that Penn launched in Ontario the day that it opened, it seems likely that the operator will plan another day one launch in Alberta.
Adam Kates, Penn Interactive VP of Compliance, said: “We’re pleased to be among the first private, regulated operators to receive approval to offer online gaming in Alberta.
“Our team has been hard at work in anticipation of launching theScore Bet, and we look forward to bringing our premium sports betting and iCasino experience to Albertans on day one.”
Penn National Gaming acquired theScore from Score Media and Gaming for US$2bn in 2021.
At the time, Jay Snowden, Penn National President and CEO said: “We are thrilled to be acquiring theScore, which is the number one sports app in Canada and the third most popular sports app in all of North America.
“We are now uniquely positioned to seamlessly serve our customers with the most powerful ecosystem of sports, gaming and media in North America, ultimately creating a community that doesn’t currently exist.
“Users will enjoy a unique mobile sports betting and iCasino platform with highly customised bets and enhanced in-gaming wagering opportunities, along with highly engaging, personalised sports and entertainment content, and real-time scores and stats.”
theScore Bet is available in 20 US states and Ontario
