Kangwon Land took part in a public awareness campaign against illegal gambling during the 59th Danjong Cultural Festival in Yeongwol, as reported by local media, marking one of its latest efforts to promote responsible gaming and community engagement.
The company operated promotional booths from April 24 to 26, offering interactive programs aimed at strengthening brand recognition and encouraging healthy leisure activities. On the opening day, Kangwon Land joined forces with the Integrated Supervisory Committee for Gambling Industries, the Korea Racing Authority and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation to launch the “Illegal Gambling OUT, Clean Festival GO!” campaign.
The initiative focused on raising public awareness about the risks of illegal gambling while reinforcing responsible entertainment practices. A company official said Kangwon Land plans to continue activities that support healthy leisure culture and the eradication of illegal gambling.
The campaign follows a leadership transition that took effect in March 2026. Vice President of Management Support Nam Han-gyu was appointed interim CEO after former CEO Choi Cheol-gyu stepped down. Nam, who joined Kangwon Land in June 2024, previously served in senior regulatory roles at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and is expected to lead operations until a new Chief Executive is appointed.
Earlier this year, Kangwon Land reported softer fourth-quarter 2025 results. Sales increased 6% year over year to KRW 365.4bn (US$267.4m), but operating profit declined due to higher wage provisions, increased gaming taxes and rising depreciation costs. Annual net profit fell 31% to KRW 316.5bn.
Looking ahead, the company has earmarked KRW 145.4bn for 2026 capital expenditure, including development of a second casino and upgrades to its VIP gaming floors, as it seeks to balance expansion with responsible gaming initiatives.
