The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has finished its assessment of GamCare’s services and scored the organisation positively across all five of the examined areas.
The report scored GamCare 4.84 overall, with 4.9/5 reported by commissioners.
In the report, the CQC described GamCare as operated “a positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty from the leaders to front line staff, with a robust reporting system” and that “people who used the service were very positive about the support and treatment they received. These people and staff reported being treated with kindness and respect.”
People who had used GamCare’s services told the assessors that “it's a great service and it does really important work for people when they are at their weakest and most vulnerable” and they were “hugely grateful for this service.”
A total of 96.5% of people interviewed felt that they had been treated with dignity and respect.
Victoria Corbishley, GamCare CEO, said: “This independent assessment is important assurance for commissioners, partners, and above all for the people who rely on our services.
“What comes through most clearly is the quality and compassion of our staff, who have maintained these standards during a period of real uncertainty for the sector.
“We welcome the CQC’s confirmation that our services operate independently of the gambling industry – that independence is fundamental to the trust people place in us.”
Notably, the report found no evidence that the support or treatment offered by GamCare was influenced by the gambling industry.
Corbishley continued: “As we prepare for the new commissioning environment, these findings confirm that GamCare has the clinical governance, the operational track record and the quality of care to continue playing a central role in supporting those affected by gambling harm across Great Britain.”
Earlier today, GamCare appointed Chris Thornton as its new Director of Operations.
Last year, GamCare responded to over 100,000 contacts through its helpline, with 84.5% answered within 30 seconds
