Brazilian police have frozen approximately BR86m linked to an alleged illegal online gambling platform.
The operation, named “Hidden Destiny,” was launched by São Paulo’s Criminal Investigation Division, which carried out four search and seizure warrants at luxury properties in São José do Rio Preto and Olímpia.
Authorities say the investigation focuses on suspected illegal gambling activity and financial crimes connected to the promotion of online betting platforms through social media channels.
According to investigators, the scheme involved a digital influencer, alongside individuals connected to her family, business and financial network.
Police allege the group used Instagram, WhatsApp groups, promotional links, giveaways and promises of financial returns to attract users to betting platforms while showcasing an affluent lifestyle online.
Financial analysis conducted during the investigation identified nearly BR100m in total transactions linked to the group, including alleged circular transfers between personal and corporate accounts, as well as operations involving payment gateways and fintech-related companies.
As part of the investigation, courts ordered the freezing of around BR86m held in accounts connected to those under investigation in an attempt to prevent asset dissipation and support possible future recovery efforts.
During the searches, police seized approximately BR7,000 in cash, $40 already in dollars, four mobile phones, three laptops, a passport, 54 syringes containing weight-loss substances and five vehicles.
Investigators also searched a property connected to the influencer’s accountant, who police say may have been linked to the group’s corporate and financial structure.
Under the country’s 2026-2027 Regulatory Agenda, Brazil’s regulator, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting plans to review rules surrounding affiliates and online influencers, particularly in cases involving unauthorized operators.
