He brings 13 years of legal experience to the sector

Morné Pieterse has announced that he will be joining Betway Africa as Director of Legal and Compliance ROA.

Pieterse has had an extensive legal career thus far; in his native South Africa, he started out as a Legal Advisor for DP du Plessis Incorporated.

In 2021, he entered the world of iGaming with a position as Director of Legal and Compliance for Betfred South Africa, specialising in gambling law for over two years.

A significant amount of time of Pieterse’s career was spent as Managing Director at MP Legal Consulting for eight years.

Former Betway Africa CEO Laurence Michel announced back in December 2025 that he would be stepping down as CEO and moving over to Chairman of the company.

He studied at the University of the Free State and majored in activities and societies, and Pieterse has been immersed in the legal world ever since.

The gaming and gambling market in Africa has been expanding and growing rapidly, and TaDa Gaming secured an entry into South Africa’s regulated gaming market through a partnership with Betway.

Pieterse announced his departure from his tenure at Ringier, “This marks the end of an incredible chapter in my career as my tenure with Ringier comes to a close.

“I am deeply grateful to my colleagues, mentors, leadership teams and business partners across the Ringier network for their support, collaboration, friendship and the many lessons learned along the way.

“As one chapter closes, another begins. I am excited about the opportunities, challenges and experiences that lie ahead and look forward to embarking on a new phase of my career.”
