The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has appointed Elevate Talent to oversee the process for recruiting a Chair for the organisation.
The agency has a reputation for being able to source leaders across a range of sectors, including sports governing bodies.
Until a permanent Chair has been found, David Jones will continue to fulfill the role from his interim position.
According to the job briefing, the role will involve a two-day per week commitment for the successful candidate.
The Chair will also be expected to support the wider executive team and deliver long-term strategy to secure British racing’s future.
They will also be responsible for growing income, participation, customers and audience figures across the industry.
The BHA stressed that the individual must also be knowledgeable on regulations and have a track record of implementing strategies that support customer growth and confidence.
An interim Nominations Committee has also been formed to assist with appointing an individual to the role of Chair.
Lord Charles Allen stepped down from his position of BHA Chair in March after just six months of the role.
He was nominated as Chair in late 2024 following a lengthy search and took up the role in September 2025.
It is believed that he resigned because of members failing to reach a unanimous agreement regarding independent board structure reforms within the BHA.
The UK horseracing scene is also currently being affected by an outbreak of equine flu.
Several meets have been cancelled, while other non-racing activities have been postponed for the summer to try and reduce the spread of disease.
Applications for the role close on 19 June
