The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has reported the total casino activity for Detroit’s three commercial properties during May 2026, which combined to generate $114.1m and increase by just 0.1%.
Slot machine and table game revenue accounted for $113.3m of the May 2026 total, representing an increase of 0.5%. MGM Grand Detroit led all properties in Detroit with $52.8m of slot and table game revenue, but fell 0.7% year-over-year.
MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown reported slot machine and table game revenues of $35.6m and $25m, respectively, equating to an increase of 4.8% for the former and a decrease of 2.6%.
The three commercial gaming properties paid $9.2m in state gaming taxes for May 2026, as well as submitted $13.5m in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit.
Retail sports betting revenue in Detroit decreased 39%, while the city’s $7.2m handle during the monthly period equates to a fall of 21.7%. MotorCity Casino generated $348,912 of retail sports betting revenue, while Hollywood Casino at Greektown and MGM Grand Detroit produced $257,362 and $175,394.
While slot machine and table game revenue managed to increase from the prior year period, the vertical witnessed a fall of 4% month-over-month, as retail sports betting revenue decreased 6.7% from April 2026.
On May 14, MGM Grand Detroit appointed Terry Briggs as the operator’s new VP of Slot Operations, where he began to oversee the property’s slot machine portfolio and evaluate opportunities to optimize its gaming floor.
Briggs most recently served as Director of Slot Operations for Golden Nugget Lake Charles in Louisiana and previously held the Casino Operations Manager role for multiple Penn National Gaming properties.
