Sports ambassador partnerships remain a common strategy for gaming brands seeking broader consumer recognition

PG Soft has appointed former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle as its Official Global Brand Ambassador, adding one of the sport's most recognisable personalities to its international marketing efforts.

The Malta-based slot supplier said Gayle will feature in global campaigns, promotional activations, social media initiatives and player engagement activities.

The agreement comes as gaming suppliers increasingly turn to sports personalities to strengthen brand awareness in competitive international markets.

Cricket remains one of the world's most watched sports, particularly across Asia, the Caribbean and parts of Africa, giving former international stars significant commercial value long after retirement.

Gayle is among cricket's most accomplished T20 players, having won two ICC T20 World Cups with the West Indies and scored more than 19,000 runs in the format.

His franchise career spanned leagues across multiple continents, helping establish a global fanbase beyond traditional cricket audiences.

The partnership also places renewed attention on PG Soft, which has become one of the most discussed suppliers in Brazil through its Fortune Tiger slot, known locally as "Jogo do Tigrinho."

The game became a cultural phenomenon during Brazil's pre-regulation online gambling boom and helped drive widespread recognition of PG Soft's content.

However, Fortune Tiger has also been drawn into broader debates around gambling advertising, consumer protection and influencer marketing practices.

Brazilian authorities have investigated a number of influencers and unlicensed operators accused of using misleading promotional tactics involving online casino products, with Fortune Tiger frequently cited in media coverage because of its popularity.

The scrutiny has largely focused on marketing practices and illegal gambling operations rather than allegations against PG Soft itself, but the title remains closely associated with public discussions around gambling regulation in the country.

Despite the controversy, Fortune Tiger continues to rank among the most recognised online casino games in Brazil following the launch of the country's regulated betting and gaming framework earlier this year.

Gayle said: "I’ve always done things in my own style, with power, confidence and maximum entertainment."

A PG Soft spokesperson said: "Chris Gayle is a true icon who represents power, charisma and success. His appointment as our Global Ambassador marks a significant milestone in our journey to deliver world-class entertainment and build deeper connections with players and fans globally."

In May, Betway appointed former Mexico international footballer Andrés Guardado as a brand ambassador as part of its efforts to strengthen engagement with fans in Mexico and the wider Latin American market. The agreement reflected a broader trend of gaming brands using well-known sports personalities to support regional marketing strategies.
