DraftKings, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and LionGrove have announced the opening of a DraftKings-branded retail sportsbook at the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino in Puerto Rico.
The launch took place on November 14 during the casino's four-year anniversary event, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a ceremonial first bet placed by former New York Yankees player Jorge Posada.
The partnership introduces DraftKings' land-based sportsbook technology to the Caribbean market, with plans to debut the company's online sportsbook in Puerto Rico at a later date, subject to licensing and regulatory approval. The venue includes betting kiosks, a staffed ticket counter and a dedicated sports lounge.
With this addition, Puerto Rico joins 28 US states, Washington, DC, and Ontario, where DraftKings currently offers regulated sports wagering.
The expansion comes as the company continues to adjust its US market strategy following its recent withdrawal from Nevada.
Earlier this month, the Nevada Gaming Control Board confirmed that DraftKings had withdrawn all pending applications to operate in the state, a decision made as the company and FanDuel shift toward offering prediction markets in other jurisdictions.
Foxwoods El San Juan Casino and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said the new sportsbook is intended to broaden onsite entertainment offerings. LionGrove, which manages the property, noted the opening as part of its long-term development plans.
DraftKings, Foxwoods and the Tribal Nation also focused on responsible gaming protocols as part of the rollout, highlighting player-protection tools and support for awareness and prevention initiatives.
Nevada regulators have warned that participation in sports event contracts in other US states could affect operator suitability under Nevada's licensing rules
