Macau July GGR falls 8.4% as year-to-date growth slows to 4.4%

Macau's gaming industry recorded another month of weaker performance in July. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) fell 8.4% year-on-year to MOP20.26bn, according to figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).

The result follows June's 12.1% decline, marking the second consecutive monthly decrease after Macau posted positive year-on-year growth during the first five months of 2026.

Despite the recent slowdown, cumulative GGR for the first seven months of the year reached MOP147.16bn, representing a 4.4% increase over the MOP140.90bn reported during the corresponding period in 2025.

The July figures come after Macau's casino market experienced a softer second quarter. Total GGR for the April-to-June period amounted to MOP61.2bn, down 7.4% from the MOP66.0bn generated during the first quarter.

Baccarat remained the dominant contributor to casino revenue during the second quarter, generating MOP35.2bn in GGR, while VIP baccarat added MOP15.9bn. Both segments, however, recorded lower revenue than in the previous quarter.

Industry observers previously attributed June's weaker performance partly to the impact of the FIFA World Cup, which affected gaming demand during the tournament. While average daily GGR showed signs of recovering after the event concluded, July's official figures indicate that overall market performance remained below last year's level.

Separately, Macau's junket sector continued to contract during July. The number of registered junket operators declined to 29 from 31 recorded at the end of March, despite the Government setting a quota of 50 licensed junkets for 2027.

Under reforms introduced in 2022, each junket operator may work exclusively with a single gaming concessionaire, fundamentally reshaping the city's VIP gaming market. The continued decline in licensed junkets highlights the sector's ongoing consolidation as Macau's gaming industry continues its transition under the revised regulatory framework.
