Representing the union’s “first organizing win” at a Boyd Gaming property, a group of 22 slot attendants and dual rates at Blue Chip Casino Hotel & Spa voted in favor of joining Teamsters Local 135 on August 3.

Teamsters Local 135 President Dustin Roach also spoke on the new development, having said, "This group demonstrated their unity and determination from the very start of this campaign.

"Now it's time for the company to meet us at the bargaining table without delay. We are going to negotiate a fair first contract and hold this company accountable every step of the way."

Teamsters was originally founded in 1903 and currently represents nearly 6,000 workers of casino and hotel establishments across the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

"With a little bit of courage and a lot of heart, we were able to make our voices heard," Blue Chip Casino Slot Attendant and Teamsters 135 member Candace Todd said.

"The company hired a union buster, held meetings and tried to intimidate us, but they didn't stand a chance. Nothing could ever break our solidarity."

In May, a total of 130 front desk workers at Mandalay Bay voted in favor of joining the Teamsters Local 986 union, which is currently owned by Vici Properties and operated by MGM Resorts International.

The front desk workers joined Teamsters to secure higher pay, better benefits and a “stronger voice” in the workplace.
