Mohegan has promoted Kristi Hanney to VP, Deputy General Counsel, expanding her responsibilities across the tribal gaming operator's legal department following a period of financial and portfolio restructuring.

Hanney joined Mohegan as Senior Corporate Counsel in 2022. Her work since then has included the operator's 2025 balance-sheet restructuring, the sale of the Connecticut Sun and changes involving its digital businesses.

Her promotion comes after Mohegan completed a series of refinancing transactions during 2025. The operator issued $1.2bn of secured notes in April and established a new $250m revolving credit facility, alongside exchanges and maturity extensions covering existing debt. The transactions left Mohegan without material debt maturities for four years.

The operator subsequently completed the $300m sale of its WNBA franchise, the Connecticut Sun, to the Tilman J. Fertitta family in May. Mohegan received $150m at closing, with the remaining proceeds due by the end of 2026.

The franchise will relocate to Houston for the 2027 season.

Mohegan said proceeds from the transaction would support debt repayment and investment in its existing assets, adding another element to its efforts to reduce leverage following the refinancing programme.

Alongside those corporate changes, Mohegan continues to operate its digital division across regulated North American markets. Mohegan Digital currently has online gaming operations in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Ontario, covering online casino and sports betting products.

In her new position, Hanney will oversee legal operations, entity management, litigation, finance and development initiatives, while leading work involving corporate governance, contract negotiations and compliance.

Mohegan SVP, Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel, Joseph Lobe, said: "Kristi has been a major part of our legal team and a trusted advisor on some of the most important transactions in Mohegan's recent history."

Before joining Mohegan, Hanney operated her own Connecticut legal practice and previously served as a partner at Louden Caisse Hanney.

Earlier this year, Mohegan appointed Guy Greene as CMO for Mohegan Digital, placing him in charge of marketing strategy across the operator's iGaming and online sports betting portfolio in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Ontario.

Hanney holds a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law and a BA in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross
