Kangwon Land is expanding its responsible gambling efforts by exploring how artificial intelligence and data psychology can help identify high-risk gambling behavior before it escalates.

The company hosted a special symposium in Seoul on Thursday in partnership with the Korean Psychological Association, bringing together around 300 psychologists, researchers and industry experts to discuss how AI and big data can strengthen early intervention strategies for gambling-related harm.

Organized jointly by the Kangwon Land Addiction Care Center (KLACC) and the association, the event focused on shifting from reactive treatment toward predictive prevention. Presentations examined how AI-powered analytics could identify vulnerable players earlier, enabling targeted support before problematic gambling develops.

The symposium also featured the presentation of six award-winning research papers from a national gambling studies competition. Kangwon Land said the findings and analytical models developed through the program will be incorporated into KLACC's future responsible gambling policies.

Academic sessions included discussions on AI-based identification of high-risk gamblers, data-driven player protection systems and the growing influence of digital technologies on gambling behavior. The event concluded with a keynote exploring how AI, gamification and modern gambling algorithms affect decision-making and why intervention frameworks must evolve alongside technology.

KLACC Director Kim Kyung-hoon said building a scientific prevention framework supported by AI and big data has become an urgent priority. He added that the center intends to continue expanding academic research while promoting a stronger culture of evidence-based player protection.

The initiative comes as South Korean authorities continue to confront illegal gambling activity using increasingly sophisticated technology.

Earlier this month, police dismantled an alleged online gambling network that impersonated Kangwon Land by copying the casino operator's branding and distributing deepfake advertisements featuring well-known athletes. Authorities arrested 58 suspects after investigating a platform that allegedly attracted more than 40,000 users and processed an estimated KRW78bn (US$55.28m) between October 2022 and August 2025.

Police emphasized that Kangwon Land, South Korea's only casino permitted to admit domestic players, does not operate any online gambling platform, warning the public to verify the legitimacy of gambling websites before engaging with them.
