Colombia's land-based gaming sector has emerged as the largest contributor to the country's subsidized health system, transferring $313.6m between January and October 2025, representing 39% of total national gaming revenue collection.

Marco Emilio Hincapié, President of Coljuegos, announced the figures during the IX National Compliance Meeting organized by Cornazar, which brought together industry operators and representatives from entities including UIAF, Supersalud and UNOCD.

Hincapié attributed the sector's growth to both entrepreneurial efforts and regulatory improvements implemented by Coljuegos. He noted that land-based gaming revenue has increased by over 8% since 2014, driven by enhanced real-time monitoring capabilities, streamlined operator services and intensified action against illegal gambling operations.

The regulator has seized approximately 7,500 illegal gambling devices since the current administration took office, while destroying 11,114 unauthorized machines that were operating without paying monopoly fees and diverting funds from healthcare financing.

Colombia currently operates 109,660 authorized electronic slot machines across 3,789 establishments, managed by 414 licensed operators. The sector encompasses bingos and casinos operating under localized gaming regulations.

Looking ahead, Hincapié indicated that the land-based gaming segment is expected to continue expanding, particularly with the implementation of Virtual Sports Racing Betting (ACDVs). Although ACDVs were regulated in 2016, they only recently became operational. Coljuegos has now issued eight licenses for this betting format, with expectations for considerable growth in the medium term.

The update follows a series of recent announcements from Coljuegos outlining increased transfers to health and peace initiatives, stronger enforcement efforts and the introduction of new regulated products such as keno.
