DigiPlus has said Brazil's move to prohibit fixed-odds betting and online gaming is not expected to have a material impact on its overall business. The Philippine operator is now preparing to wind down its activities under the government's timetable.
The company said it is closely monitoring legislative and legal developments and taking the necessary steps to comply with the directive. Its immediate focus is processing customer withdrawals and ensuring remaining funds are returned within the prescribed period.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed Provisional Measure No. 1,394 on September 25, prohibiting the operation, offering, intermediation and advertising of fixed-odds betting, covering sports betting and online games.
New deposits were prohibited immediately. Customers have until 11:59 p.m. on October 5 to withdraw funds voluntarily, while betting websites and apps must become unavailable from October 6. Remaining balances will subsequently be processed through financial institutions, with further arrangements for funds that cannot initially be returned.
The development comes shortly after DigiPlus reported that its Brazilian operation had begun generating revenue following adjustments to its platform.
DigiPlus initially soft-launched in Brazil in September 2024 before pausing operations in October to modify the product for local preferences. While performance had subsequently improved, Brazil remained a relatively small contributor compared with the company's Philippine business.
The operator has also been exploring other regulated international markets, including South Africa and New Zealand, as part of a broader expansion strategy.
DigiPlus said the situation in Brazil remains fluid as the relevant legislative and legal processes continue. The company plans to monitor developments and provide further updates where appropriate.
