DigiPlus has begun generating revenue from its Brazilian gaming operations as the Philippine operator continues exploring opportunities in regulated markets outside Asia.
Chief Global Growth Officer Erick Su said adjustments to the Brazilian platform have improved revenue performance following its initial soft launch, although the market remains small compared with DigiPlus' Philippine operations.
The platform initially operated for around three weeks from September 2024 before DigiPlus paused operations on October 10 to make changes aimed at better aligning the product with local preferences.
DigiPlus is continuing to assess opportunities to expand the Brazilian business, but Su described the company's wider international strategy as being in an exploration stage. Brazil also presents challenges including strong competition and uncertainty surrounding gambling policy.
South Africa represents another potential growth market. DigiPlus has around 10 months remaining under its one-year launch timeline following licence approval and expects to work with third-party partners as it establishes operations there.
The company is also pursuing New Zealand, where its board has approved the filing of an Expression of Interest for an online gaming licence. New Zealand's regulated online casino framework is expected to take effect in 2027.
DigiPlus said its focus remains on regulated jurisdictions where its existing capabilities can be applied. The company sees fewer opportunities elsewhere in Asia because several markets either prohibit online gambling or operate under monopoly structures.
Its international push follows the appointment of Teneo as a strategic adviser to assist with market evaluation, regulatory considerations and long-term expansion planning.
The expansion comes as DigiPlus navigates softer performance at home. Q2 gross gaming revenue fell 9% quarter over quarter to PHP15.61bn (US$260m), although adjusted EBITDA increased 7.4% to PHP2.84bn and monthly active users rose 25.8% from Q1.
DigiPlus appointed Teneo as a strategic adviser for its international expansion last month
