During the first four days of National Day Golden Week, the Chinese public holiday that goes from 1 to 7 October, Macau has welcomed 751,000 visitors, a 10.9% increase compared to the year before.
The amount exceeded the local tourism authority's expectations, averaging at 188,000 people a day. Moreover, the area's border checkpoints have handled around 3.1 million crossings in that same amount of time.
The peak visitor day was Sunday, reaching 210,000 arrivals, as large crowds gathered to see up to four firework displays.
As the public holiday continues, Macau's is preparing to handle an expected 5.2 million to 5.4 million crossings by Wednesday.
Tourism has been steadily increasing in the area, with Macau's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) reporting almost 4.5 million arrivals in August 2026, a 6.1% increase compared to the same month the year before.
Between January and August, Macau International Airport handled 5.21 million passengers and 38,000 flights, up 5.6% and 0.3% respectively. International visitors for this period totalled 1,768,596, up 3.4% year-on-year.
This year, Macau passed 30 million visitor arrivals on September 11, 22 days earlier than it did in 2025. With visitors from mainland China increasing by 9.3% to 3,561,667.
Despite the increase in arrivals, Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) fell 1.2% to MOP18.06bn (US$2.23bn) that same month. Nevertheless, the area has remained ahead of its 2025 performance as casino GGR rose 3.2% to MOP187.12bn during the first nine months of 2026.
Despite four months of declines, Macau's 2026 gaming revenue remains above the previous year's
