Six local gaming operators have contributed MOP 100m to the Macau GP
This heightened investment represents a 400% increase year-over-year
Macau continues its push to diversify its tourism industry, with gaming operators helping to finance the initiative

A total of six key gambling operators in the Macau region have contributed a combined MOP 100m ($12.5m) towards the sponsorship of this year’s Grand Prix.

Indeed, Galaxy Entertainment Group, MGM China, Sands China, and SJM Resorts will each allocate MOP 20m, while Melco Resorts & Entertainment and Wynn Macau will each contribute MOP 10m – according to the Macao Grand Prix Organizing Committee (MGPOC).

The same six operators also provided a contribution of MOP 20m to the 2025 Macau Grand Prix, with this year’s figure marking a 400% increase.

This sharp upswing reflects the recent push for diversification in Macau and highlights the willingness of gaming operators to help support the broader initiative for leisure and entertainment activities in the region beyond gambling. Last month the region also unveiled a $16bn diversification strategy which seeks to reduce dependence on gaming and reposition Macau as a business and innovation hub.

Further, Formula 1’s growing popularity has seen general investment into the sport also take on a positive trajectory in recent years – with these two combined factors evidenced by this latest investment announcement.

As part of race week at this year’s 73rd Macau Grand Prix this week, the MGPOC has also undertaken a range of side events and activations, with the Macau City Culture Festival running throughout the week.

Recent updates from Macau’s tourism industry highlighted a 6.1% year-over-year rise in foreign visitor arrivals during August this year, with an estimated 500,000 visitors traveling to the region for the 2025 Grand Prix. Nevertheless, additional statistics from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau highlighted a 1.2% gross gaming revenue reduction year-over-year during September, settling at MOP 18.06bn.

Last week saw the Macau Government reiterate its expectation of a MOP 236bn gross gaming revenue figure for the full year 2026 period
