The Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has confirmed changes to its governance and organisational structure.
These discussions follow the KSA's review of lottery subscription practices and come shortly after three gambling policymakers left their positions as part of the regulator's latest integrity checks.
Effective from 1 January 2026, the KSA will operate with a revised Board of Directors model. The board will consist of one full-time chair and two part-time board members.
Michel Groothuizen will remain in his position as chair. The recruitment and appointment process for the two additional board members is at an advanced stage and further details will be communicated in due course.
The chair will maintain regular contact with the directorates, act as the organisation's primary representative and oversee the implementation of statutory and societal objectives. The two part-time board members will contribute strategic expertise in areas including digitalisation, governance and integrity.
From January 2026, operational management will be handled by three directorates. Player Protection & Management Advice will be led by Roos Lawant from 1 February 2026. Permits & Supervision will be overseen by Ella Seijsener from 1 January 2026. Digitalisation, Analysis & Business Operations will be led by Daniel Palomo van Es from 1 February 2026. During January, Groothuizen and Seijsener will temporarily assume director-level responsibilities.
There already have been many appointments in December across the gaming and racing sectors, including new board members at Racing NSW and Greyhound Racing NSW, as well as senior executive roles at Penn Entertainment and GGW.
The transition also marks the departure of Vice-Chair Bernadette van Buchem, who will step down on 1 January 2026 after serving on the board since 2018
