The Hippodrome Casino has introduced Paddy's Sportsbook, a new facility created in partnership with Paddy Power.
The opening took place on 1 October and follows regulatory changes made through the Gambling Act Review, which allowed casinos to increase slot machine numbers and add sportsbooks.
The sportsbook is located beneath the main casino floor and contains 55 screens, including a 10-metre curved display. The venue also includes a 360-degree bar. Guests have access to four gaming tables, a darts board, video poker machines, and a burger bar in addition to the sports betting offer.
It is presented as a Vegas-style sportsbook, raising the question of whether this model could represent the future of UK retail compared with traditional betting shops.
The launch event included music and other activities. Well-known figures from sport attended, including Peter Crouch and Fallon Sherrock. Visitors received £200 in chips to use during the evening, with the possibility of contributing winnings to charitable causes.
Simon Thomas, Executive Chairman of the Hippodrome, stated that establishing a sportsbook within the casino had been a long-term aim and described the partnership with Paddy Power as straightforward.
Rupert Elwood, Managing Director of Retail at Paddy Power, said the company was "extremely satisfied" with the opportunity to take part in this form of retail gambling in the UK.
The Gambling Act Review, which enabled this development, also raised the maximum number of slot machines permitted on the casino floor to 80. The Hippodrome has indicated that further expansions, including new lounges and additional slots are part of its ongoing plans.
Paddy Power has recently been named Official Sportsbook Partner of the NFL in the UK and Ireland for the 2025-26 season
