A California resident has filed a lawsuit against a Las Vegas casino and a railroad company after an accident on railway tracks behind the property. The legal action was submitted in Clark County civil court on 26 December 2025.

The plaintiff, Ryan Pettway, names Boyd Gaming Corporation, which operates the Main Street Station hotel and casino and Union Pacific Railroad Corporation. The complaint states that a fence behind the property was not maintained, allowing access to active railway tracks.

According to the lawsuit the incident occurred on 27 December 2023 when Pettway crossed the tracks near the fence. He was struck by a freight train and sustained serious injuries, including the amputation of his right leg and left foot. Medical treatment is expected to include multiple surgeries and ongoing care.

The lawsuit alleges that both companies were aware of the fence’s condition and pedestrian use of the area, including nearby encampments. Pettway is seeking damages exceeding $75,000 to cover medical expenses, punitive damages and other losses related to the incident.

In the wider legal landscape, the Sports Betting Alliance has filed a lawsuit challenging Chicago’s sports betting tax, while a Virginia court case alleges that Drake, Adin Ross and an Australian man were involved in using gambling funds to inflate music streams.

Elsewhere in Las Vegas, Hard Rock Las Vegas President Joe Lupo reported that construction crews have completed 28 of the planned 42 stories of the guitar-shaped hotel on the former site of The Mirage. The city also kicked off 2026 with expanded New Year’s Eve celebrations, including coordinated fireworks, a first-ever drone show and large visitor turnout along the Strip.
