Brazil’s Sport Club Internacional, also known in the country as ‘Inter,’ has officially terminated its main sponsorship agreement with Alfabet.
The termination happened after the company failed to honor financial commitments under the contract. The decision follows missed payments and comes before the partnership completed its first year.
The contract, signed for three seasons and originally valid through 2026, was valued at BR50m per year, paid in 12 monthly installments of approximately BR4.16m.
According to the club, efforts were initially made to resolve the issue through dialogue, after Alfabet mentioned financial difficulties linked to changes in its corporate structure.
However, recurring delays led Internacional to conclude that the situation was no longer sustainable. The club has now activated its legal department to seek payment of the outstanding amounts, as well as the contractual compensation owed following termination.
In an official statement, Inter’s legal department said:
“The Sport Club Internacional announces that it has notified the termination of the contract with its main sponsor due to existing contractual non-compliance."
"Internacional also informs that negotiations are underway for the hiring of a new main sponsor. Once the deal is finalized, communication will be made officially.”
The episode highlights a period of significant change in Brazilian football sponsorships.
While operators remain deeply present in the sport, 2026 has seen a wave of contract reshuffles, exits and renegotiations, from state championship naming rights to top-tier club shirts.
Inter’s challenge will be to secure a replacement deal that balances financial ambition with long-term reliability as the season progresses.
