BetBlocker has announced the launch of Greek language support for its free and anonymous gambling blocking software, marking the charity’s first language expansion of 2026.
The update allows native Greek speakers to access BetBlocker’s tools in their own language, reinforcing the organisation’s long-standing focus on localisation as a core element of gambling harm prevention.
The charity has consistently argued that language accessibility is critical to ensuring users can effectively manage or restrict their gambling activity. Blocking software often requires multiple technical steps during setup, and BetBlocker maintains that users are more likely to complete the process successfully when instructions are presented clearly in a familiar language, particularly during periods of stress or crisis.
Greek is spoken by more than 13 million people worldwide. While comprehensive, recent data on gambling harm in Greece is limited, a 2019 academic study reported that 2.4% of respondents met the criteria for problem gambling, with higher risk linked to factors such as low income, lower educational attainment and living with family of origin.
BetBlocker says the Greek launch aims to improve access to preventative tools for individuals who may otherwise face barriers to support.
The translation was delivered with support from EveryMatrix and Christina Theophilos, who assisted in adapting the app for Greek-speaking users.
Commenting on the collaboration, Jake Cachia, Head of Compliance for EveryMatrix, stated: “EveryMatrix is proud to partner with BetBlocker and support the Greek translation of the app. With BetBlocker now available in Greek, people in Greece can access the tool in their own language, making it easier to take practical steps to pause, stop or reduce their gambling if they need to.”
BetBlocker’s Chief of Safer Gambling Partnerships, Pedro Romero, added: “Supporting people in their native language is not a 'nice to have', it is often the difference between someone successfully reaching a blocked state and giving up partway through setup.
"Language support also helps communities that can be underserved by national services, including people living as minorities in other countries, migrants, international workers and anyone who cannot comfortably navigate technical instructions in the majority language.
"By prioritising localisation, not just direct translation, we help ensure BetBlocker is accessible, usable and respectful across cultures, and easier for local partners to signpost effectively within the communities they support.”
The launch builds on BetBlocker's recent momentum, following the charity's announcement that it supported over 300,000 active users in 2025 at an average cost of £0.98 ($1.35) per user.
BetBlocker's localisation efforts have proven highly effective, with user numbers increasing by 297% in Italy, 229% in France and 645% in Japan after language-specific versions were introduced
