The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has formally adopted 1-800-MY-RESET as the new National Problem Gambling Helpline number, with the service now live and accepting calls across the United States.
The new number is intended to improve memorability and visibility of the national helpline, which provides free, confidential support and referrals for individuals affected by gambling-related harm.
Calls to 1-800-MY-RESET are routed through the National Problem Gambling Helpline Network, which links callers to 24 contact centers nationwide staffed by trained professionals and operating to internationally recognized quality standards.
The helpline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and serves as a single point of access for crisis support, information, and referrals to local treatment and recovery resources.
National Council on Problem Gambling Board President, Derek Longmeier, said: “Problem gambling support should never be limited to a single moment or a single definition of harm. 1-800-MY-RESET reinforces that the National Problem Gambling Helpline is available at any stage.”
Longmeier added: “Making the Helpline number easier to remember is a practical, meaningful step toward reducing barriers to care.”
According to NCPG research, nearly 20 million US adults reported experiencing at least one indicator of gambling-related harm in the past year.
The organization said the launch of the new number forms part of a broader effort to modernize its national support infrastructure, reduce stigma, and position gambling harm more clearly as a public health issue, particularly as legal gambling continues to expand across multiple states.
National Council on Problem Gambling Executive Director, Heather L. Maurer, said: “With gambling now more accessible than ever, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is a critical lifeline.”
Maurer added: “Making the number easier to remember helps ensure people across the country can quickly connect with high-quality, confidential support when they need it.”
NCPG confirmed that existing access points, including 1-800-522-4700, will remain operational. Adoption and promotion of 1-800-MY-RESET may vary by state due to local regulatory requirements, with NCPG continuing to work with regulators, operators, and public health partners to encourage consistent nationwide use.
Earlier this month, the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling joined NCPG’s Gift Responsibly Campaign, an initiative aimed at reducing early exposure to gambling and educating communities about the risks of giving lottery products to minors.
The National Problem Gambling Helpline Network also offers text and chat-based support options, depending on state-level availability, alongside its national phone services
