Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner were the most bet-on athletes worldwide in 2025, according to newly released data from Entain. This comes shortly after Entain published its annual ranking of the year's biggest betting events, with the Grand National securing the top position for another year.
The figures are based on total stakes placed between 1 January and 31 December 2025 and show the two tennis players attracting more betting activity than athletes from football, American football and other global sports.
Other names in sports including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Saquon Barkley recorded lower total staking over the same period. Clearly, athletes generate significant betting revenue through the use of their names and images, which is why Brazil's Chamber of Deputies’ Permanent Subcommittee on Sports Betting held a hearing to ensure operators comply with Law 14.790/23.
The data reflects a notable year for men’s tennis, with Alcaraz and Sinner regularly appearing in the latter stages of major tournaments. Melbourne was the only men’s singles Grand Slam final in 2025 that did not feature either player.
Across the season, all four Grand Slam tournaments recorded increased betting volumes, with several reaching new internal benchmarks for the operator. This rise in activity aligned with sustained interest in the Alcaraz–Sinner rivalry throughout the year.
At the same time that Entain is seeing record betting on tennis stars like Alcaraz and Sinner, it is reassessing its long-standing relationship with horseracing, including ending the Coral Cup sponsorship amid changing UK tax and commercial pressures.
Michael Wood, Entain Head of Tennis, stated: “Alcaraz-Sinner is an economy that consistently produces the highest betting volumes of any individual athletes in sport. When they face each other, those volumes surge far beyond a typical Grand Slam match.
“Many anticipated a lull in tennis’ popularity following the retirement of icons like Federer, Nadal and Serena Williams, but the emerging rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz means we’re seeing younger fans flocking to the sport in record-breaking numbers.”
The data is based on total amounts staked rather than the number of bets placed or individual customers
