BetMGM has updated its terms of service to "explicitly prohibit” athlete harassment, including abusive language sent to players, coaches or additional team and league personnel.
Looking to provide “even more clarity” around its anti-harassment policy, BetMGM stated it will now be able to suspend betting accounts found to be directing harassing language towards athletes.
"We are unwavering in our commitment to sports integrity — and that commitment extends to safeguarding athletes, coaches and league personnel," BetMGM Chief Compliance Officer Rhea Loney said.
"Our legal, regulated environment enables us to identify misconduct, investigate reports and take action when necessary. Any confirmed instance of harassment will result in decisive measures, including account suspension."
Under the operator’s previous terms of service, BetMGM was allowed to suspend a respective betting account for any lawful reason, including harassment.
The new language specifically highlighting athlete harassment “underscores” BetMGM’s commitment to sports integrity and player safety but is still subject to regulatory approval at the time of writing.
Former NFL running back and BetMGM Ambassador Barry Sanders also spoke on the update, having said, "As a professional athlete, I know how important respect is — both on and off the field.
“BetMGM is sending a strong message that harassment has no place in sports or sports betting. I'm proud to see BetMGM protecting athletes and promoting integrity."
The operator stated its updated terms of service aligns with fellow responsible gambling initiatives, such as its GameSense platform which is currently integrated in 10 NFL stadiums across the US.
