Hard Rock International has announced plans to develop an $850m hotel and casino resort in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in partnership with Misla Hospitality, Stonecrest Investment Management and The Interfin Companies.

The new-build project, branded as Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan, is expected to begin construction in mid-2026 and open to guests in 2029.

The development would represent Hard Rock’s first destination in Puerto Rico and its first integrated hotel, casino, and residential project on the island.

According to the announcement, the resort is designed to incorporate Puerto Rico’s cultural and musical heritage, with architectural work led by Klai Juba Wald and CMA Architects.

Located near San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the resort is planned to include approximately 415 hotel rooms, 58 suites, and 186 branded residences.

The project will also feature a casino, live entertainment venues, a recording studio, dining outlets, multiple bars, spa and fitness facilities and three pools. Dedicated amenities for younger visitors, including children’s and teen-focused spaces, are also planned.

Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González-Colón said the project would support economic development through job creation and increased tourism, while positioning the island as an attractive destination for international investment.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Discover Puerto Rico also highlighted the project’s proximity to cruise ports and Old San Juan as a strategic advantage for the tourism sector.

Hard Rock International COO Jeff Hook said the company views San Juan as a natural addition to its global portfolio, citing the shared importance of music and culture. He noted that the project is intended to serve both international visitors and local residents.

The development team stated that the project is expected to generate more than 2,500 construction jobs and approximately 1,250 permanent roles once operational.

Hard Rock also said it plans to prioritize local partnerships and community engagement as part of the development process.

In January 2026, Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming expanded their human trafficking prevention initiatives, including plans to partner with nonprofit It’s A Penalty during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The companies said the program builds on Hard Rock’s Social Identity Quest initiative, which has reached more than 3.2m students across the US and Mexico since 2021.

Hard Rock International is also developing a large-scale property in Las Vegas, which is scheduled to open in 2027 and is planned to include approximately 3,600 hotel rooms and 175,000 square feet of gaming space
