The Virginia Lottery has reported the state’s sports wagering activity for January 2026, as adjusted gross revenue (AGR) generated by online and retail operators during the monthly period decreased 7.2% for a total of $75.2m.
Mobile sports wagering accounted for the vast majority of revenue during January 2026, having generated $74.9m for the monthly period but decreasing 7.1% from the prior year period.
Retail sports betting revenue produced just $324,385 of revenue during January 2026 and decreased 60.9%, having accepted $4m worth of wagers in Virginia for the monthly period.
Virginia bettors generated a total sports wagering handle of $687.9m for January 2026, equating to 6% increase year-over-year and driven by mobile betting which accounted for $683.9m of handle and fell 6.4%.
For January 2026, online and retail sports betting operators combined to submit just over $11.2m in total taxes to the Virginia Lottery, with nearly $11m going towards the state’s General Fund Allocation and the remaining $281,194 issued to the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund.
On February 13, the Virginia Lottery reported the state’s total casino activity for January 2026, as revenue increased 12% to just over $81m, aided by the debut of Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia in Petersburg on January 23.
Developed by The Cordish Companies in partnership with Bruce Smith Enterprise, Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia’s temporary facility generated nearly $4.7m of casino revenue during the final week of January, including $3.9m of slot revenue and $789,200 from table games.
The permanent resort is expected to open in late 2027 and will include a larger gaming floor, hotel accommodations, meeting and entertainment space and expanded dining options.
