The Virginia Lottery has reported the state’s total casino activity for January 2026, as revenue increased 12% to just over $81m, aided by the debut of Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia in Petersburg on January 23.
Developed by The Cordish Companies in partnership with Bruce Smith Enterprise, Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia’s temporary facility generated nearly $4.7m of casino revenue during the final week of January, including $3.9m of slot revenue and $789,200 from table games.
The permanent resort is expected to open in late 2027 and will include a larger gaming floor, hotel accommodations, meeting and entertainment space and expanded dining options.
Caesars Virginia managed to produce the most revenue of any Virginia gaming establishment during January 2026, reporting $30.5m for an increase of 13.4% year-over-year.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth and Hard Rock Bristol generated January 2026 casino revenues of $25.2m and $19.5m, respectively, representing a decrease of 0.1% for Rivers Portsmouth but a 5.5% increase for the Hard Rock International property.
The Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk, operated by Boyd Gaming and developed in partnership with the Pamunkey Indian Tribe, produced nearly $1.1m of casino revenue after launching in mid-November 2025.
Similar to Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia, the Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk will be replaced by a permanent facility in 2027, featuring a construction cost of approximately $750m.
The five Virginia operators combined to pay close to $14.6m in total taxes for January 2026, including $4.9m to the host cities in which each is located, over $116,000 to the state’s Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund and $9.6m to the Gaming Proceeds Fund.
Virginia’s Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee voted 8-6 to advance SB 118 on February 10, which could potentially legalize iGaming and allow retail casinos to partner with up to three online casino platforms
