Genting Malaysia Berhad has announced the redesignation of Dato’ Sri Lee Choong Yan, who will transition from his current advisory post into a Non-Executive board position as part of the company’s leadership succession process. The change was disclosed in a filing to Bursa Malaysia.

Dato’ Sri Lee, 65, will retire as Senior Advisor on April 30 2026 and be redesignated as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director effective May 1 2026. He had earlier been redesignated as Senior Advisor and Executive Director on March 1 2026, marking the beginning of his phased transition out of day-to-day management.

Dato’ Sri Lee has served on the company’s board since January 2020 and was President and Executive Director from April 2022. Prior to that, he spent 16 years as President and Chief Operating Officer, a role he assumed in August 2006. Throughout his tenure, he was responsible for corporate strategy and operational oversight across Genting Malaysia and its subsidiaries. 

Beyond Malaysia, he also serves as CEO of Genting UK Plc, where the group operates more than 30 casinos and Resorts World Birmingham. He additionally oversees the Group’s businesses in the United States and the Bahamas, and holds directorships across the wider Genting Malaysia Group. 

Dato’ Sri Lee trained as a chartered accountant in London and later worked in Hong Kong’s audit and advisory practices before moving into investment banking. He joined the Genting Group in 1997, bringing extensive financial and strategic experience to the company’s leadership.

Genting Malaysia stated that there are no conflicts of interest relating to his redesignation.

Dato’ Sri Lee holds 4.83m ordinary shares in Genting Malaysia, while his spouse holds an additional 2m shares under Section 59(11)(c) of the Companies Act 2016
