Merkur Casino UK has pledged a £100,000 ($133,000) donation to Momentum Children’s Charity as part of a new three-year partnership aimed at supporting families with seriously ill children.
Momentum provides tailored emotional and practical assistance to families across London, Surrey and Sussex whose children are facing cancer or other life-challenging conditions. Its services are delivered both in hospital and at home by dedicated family support workers.
In cases where a child dies, the charity offers specialist bereavement support through its Momentum Echoes programme.
According to Merkur, the funding will contribute to the charity’s future development plans and help expand a range of initiatives designed to support affected families. These include access to respite opportunities such as day trips on Momentum’s riverboat and stays in dedicated respite cabins, intended to give families time to rest and create meaningful experiences together.
The operator announced the partnership at its annual company conference late last year. The first instalment of the donation has already been received by the charity.
Commenting on the development, Sarah Woods, CEO of Momentum Children’s Charity, stated: “We are delighted to be partnering with Merkur Casino UK and are extremely grateful for their generous support. This partnership will allow Momentum to continue providing vital emotional and practical help to families who have a child with cancer or a life-challenging condition.
“Over the next three years, this support will enable us to reach more families and respond to the growing demand for our services. With the first donation already received, we can already see the difference this partnership is making.”
Mark Schertle, COO of Merkur Casino UK, added: “At Merkur, we strongly believe that giving back to the communities we serve is important, especially when it comes to supporting those who are facing heartbreaking challenges.
“Momentum Children’s Charity provides invaluable and exceptional support to the families and children affected by cancer and life-challenging conditions, helping them to cope more easily, whatever the outcome. We are glad that our partnership, and donations to follow, will help Momentum continue its hard work, and we are looking forward to what lies ahead.”
The announcement forms part of a broader period of change and activity within the wider Merkur Group. In recent months, the company has made several organisational moves, including the creation of a new Group-level Chief Information Security Officer role, filled by long-serving executive Manuel Kreft.
The Group has also seen leadership transitions across its international subsidiaries, with a new dual management team taking charge at Merkur Service, and COO Lara Knuchel and CFO Juanjo Mayol stepping in to jointly lead Spanish subsidiary Merkur Dosniha following the departure of founder Carlos Chacón after 34 years.
