The Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation has drafted a resolution that would ban military personnel from accessing gambling products.
The Ministry has said this initiative is primarily to protect soldiers from gambling addiction, but it will also reduce the number of potential security risks for members of the military and their families.
This would be managed through the newly launched state registers and the Trembita system.
Operators currently check participants against an exclusion register, but an additional step will be added to check players against the register of military personnel.
If that player is currently serving, then the system will alert the operator to restrict access for the individual.
However, to protect military personnel, the system will not reveal which register blocked the request.
The operator will not be told whether the denial is due to military service or a self-exclusion request.
This is a measure to protect personal data and sensitive information regarding Ukraine’s national security.
Gennady Novikov, PlayCity Head, said: “It's all about protecting our military from the risks of gambling addiction and potential threats to them and their families.
“Virtually, inaccessibility to the game is implemented thanks to the interaction of state registers - automatically, without disclosing sensitive information.
“For us, this step is an integral part of our systematic approach to building a regulated and safe gambling market.”
This measure comes only a few weeks after Ukraine completed a study into gambling rates among active soldiers.
This was conducted by the Association of Ukrainian Gambling Operators (AUOGB).
The register of military personnel is currently being developed by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine
