FanDuel has confirmed plans to phase out FanDuel TV operations by the end of 2027 to Global Gaming Insider, resulting in the elimination of over 100 jobs as the entity continues directing investments toward areas “most critical” to its long-term roadmap and core businesses.
FanDuel CEO Amy Howe, as well as GM of Racing Andrew Moore, commented on how investments required to distribute a linear television network failed to align with the operator’s long-term strategy.
FanDuel TV originally launched during 2022 as a rebrand of the Television Games Network (TVG), but will now see approximately 60% of its workforce eliminated by the end of June following the operator’s commitment to airing Keeneland and Triple Crown coverage.
FanDuel Racing and TVG betting accounts will still remain active despite the planned 20-month phase out, as the operator is also set to continue to provide simulcast horseracing feeds through its online betting platforms.
While the operator’s long-term roadmap and core businesses could reflect greater focus on efforts related to prediction markets, Moore told reporters the offering has not had a significant impact on its existing businesses.
Along with its FanDuel TV linear programming, the operator has also chosen to shut down its peer-to-peer fantasy sports product FanDuel Picks, with account access and the ability to withdraw funds officially concluding on May 29.
“Last year, we launched FanDuel Picks to give customers a new way to compete with friends through peer-to-peer contests. We’re proud of the work that went into building this experience and the creativity behind it,” FanDuel stated within the release.
“After careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to sunset FanDuel Picks and reallocate resources to other areas of our business where we see the greatest opportunity to serve our customers. Through this transition, we’re committed to making it easy for customers to wrap up their contests and withdraw their funds.”
FanDuel confirmed the last contests run by the peer-to-peer fantasy sports product will become available on April 23, while paid FanDuel Picks entries which are currently live or still to be decided will play out “as scheduled” and settle in normal fashion.
FanDuel launched its sportsbook offering in the state of Arkansas on March 23 through a partnership with Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort, giving users access to a broader range of betting options
