Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the appointment of Hoong Wee Teck as the new Chairman of the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), effective April 1 2026.
Hoong, who currently serves as deputy chairman of the authority, will succeed Tan Tee How, who has chaired the regulator since 2018. The leadership transition comes as the GRA continues to oversee Singapore’s evolving gambling landscape under an expanded national mandate.
A former Commissioner of Police, Hoong brings 38 years of experience in the Singapore Police Force, including 11 years at its helm. His tenure in law enforcement was marked by a focus on operational effectiveness, governance, and institutional leadership.
Under Tan’s stewardship, the GRA underwent a significant transformation, shifting from a casino-focused regulator to the national authority overseeing all forms of gambling in Singapore. The expansion strengthened regulatory oversight across physical and remote gambling activities, reinforcing efforts to keep gambling operations free from criminal influence while minimizing social harm.
The Ministry of Home Affairs credited Tan with guiding the authority through this transition, ensuring robust governance structures and strategic clarity during a period of regulatory change. The ministry expressed appreciation for his service and contributions to the GRA’s development.
Hoong’s appointment signals continuity in regulatory oversight, with an emphasis on strong enforcement, governance, and safeguarding public interests as Singapore’s gambling environment continues to evolve.
The Gambling Regulatory Authority serves as Singapore’s unified regulator for all gambling activities to prevent criminal infiltration and mitigate gambling-related harm in society
