Lotería de la Ciudad, the Buenos Aires Lottery, has begun holding courses to warn influencers about the dangers of promoting illegal gambling websites.
So far, two courses have been held that attracted more than 40 influencers and public figures.
During the training sessions, the City Lottery explained why promoting illegal gambling websites was so harmful, in particular, the dangers of exposing children to gambling through social media.
Attendees were also taken through slides explaining what the City Lottery does as a regulatory body and why promoting responsible gambling to a large audience is so important.
In addition to the two training courses, more than 100 document letters were sent out, and 162 complaints related to illegal gambling were received by the City Lottery.
The courses were part of the framework created alongside the government and promoted by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in Gambling (FEJA), led by Juan Rozas.
Earlier this year, the City Lottery held mandatory training programs for cashiers who had been charged with enabling illegal betting activities, such as selling scratchcards to minors.
A spokesperson for the City Lottery said: “Its objective is to raise awareness about the risks associated with clandestine gambling, discourage its spread and highlight the importance of promoting legal gambling as a key tool to prevent child gambling.”
As part of this initiative, the regulator took a similar message to the Firesports 2026 Counter-Strike event earlier this year.
This is particularly important to the City Lottery, as esports events typically attract younger audiences – and there is still little momentum for responsible gambling or encouraging regulated play in esports.
The City Lottery is promoting responsible gambling practices and personal well-being as part of its "Hablar es Ganar" (To Speak is To Win) public awareness campaign
