Were the analysts right? Does paying less tax mean companies can invest in themselves and produce better results?

Buzz Bingo has reported that both admissions and revenue figures have risen for the first time in almost 20 years of operations.

The operator cites the various investments it has made in clubs around the UK as the key to its success.

These include upgrading screens, installing electronic touch pads, providing fast Wi-Fi for customers and introducing new playing formats.

The clubs that have been refurbished have seen a 20% growth in admissions and a 50% increase in new customers.

When talking to the Mirror, Dominic Mansour, Group CEO, said: “Bingo is enjoying a real resurgence across the UK.

“We expect to see even stronger growth in 2026 and beyond as we fully benefit from these investments.

“This performance is especially strong given the uncertainty around the Budget last year and, while we welcome the Government’s decision to abolish Bingo Duty, it will be important that the sector and omnichannel businesses in particular benefit from a stable regulatory environment so this positive momentum can continue.”

This story also marks one of the first positive stories seen since the UK Budget was revealed last year, and considering bingo was the vertical that arguably got off the lightest, it is no surprise to see the positivity coming from this area.

Perhaps this could be the case study that the industry needs, though.

Less duty paid means that operators can reinvest more into their properties, attract new customers, create more revenue and perhaps even provide more jobs for the UK public in the process.

Good to know

The 10% tax on bingo operator profits was scrapped on 1 April 2026 to support the land-based gambling sector, particularly in coastal communities
