A group of 85 cage cashiers at Encore Boston Harbor has voted to join Teamsters Local 25, seeking union representation to advocate for higher pay, better benefits, and a stronger voice in the workplace.
Ranjana Thapa, one of the workers, explained the motivation behind the move: "We joined the Teamsters because we believe in fairness, respect and building a better future for everyone on the job. It wasn't easy, but we overcame every obstacle, stood together through the hard times, and never backed down."
Cage cashiers at the casino handle the conversion of chips and money for customers. The group said that joining the union will help them address workplace concerns collectively.
Tom Mari, President of Local 25, said: "These workers fought long and hard, determined to win a strong voice on the job. All of us at Local 25 are ready to make sure these new members get the industry-leading pay and benefits that they deserve."
Teamsters Local 25 represents more than 13,000 members and their families in the greater Boston and southern New England areas.
Encore Boston Harbor features over 2,700 slot titles, 175 table games, and a poker room, including poker tournament play.
