The Minnesota Lottery has signed a new seven-year contract with Scientific Games to undergo a “major tech modernization,” joining fellow organizations such as the Ohio Lottery, New Mexico Lottery and Loto-Québec in collaborating with the supplier.
As part of the new agreement, Scientific Games will replace the Minnesota Lottery’s legacy system with its own Momentum technology, which looks to optimize sales performance and provide security for retail and digital networks.
"We took an innovative approach to selecting technology that would pave the way to the future and responsibly grow our contributions to programs that positively impact the lives of Minnesotans," Minnesota Lottery Executive Director Adam Prock said.
"We were seeking modern technology and a solution focused on service and partnership. Scientific Games was aligned with our vision for growth."
The seven-year contract can be renewed for up to three additional years, and will also feature the integration of Scientific Games’ SCiQ digital menu boards across the Minnesota Lottery’s retailer network.
Since its inception in 1990, the Minnesota Lottery has contributed over $4bn to state programs, including those focused on the environment, education, public safety, health and human services and problem gambling.
Scientific Games President of Americas & Global Instant Products John Schulz spoke on the new partnership, having said, "Scientific Games looks forward to serving the Minnesota Lottery with the highest standards of excellence and all the flexibility a cloud-based ecosystem has to offer.
"A systems conversion requires a strong partnership and months of cooperation and collaboration. We will work closely with the Minnesota Lottery's team to deliver another successful go-live, moving the Lottery into a sustainable future."
To begin 2026, Scientific Games and Brightstar Global Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brightstar Lottery, partnered to form SP Loterias SPE S.A. (SPL), a new lottery enterprise operating in São Paulo State, Brazil.
The two entities came to terms on a 15-year concession agreement with the Government of the State of São Paulo to operate the new lottery and obtain an exclusive state license to provide omnichannel technology.
