Betfair has launched a World Cup fan engagement campaign fronted by Alan Shearer, as operators increase football-led content activity ahead of the 2026 tournament.
The Flutter-owned sports betting operator has opened Alan Shearer’s Hot Take Hotline, allowing fans to leave voicemail opinions on England’s World Cup prospects, Scotland’s chances, player selections, VAR decisions and other tournament topics.
Shearer, who is also a BBC pundit and Betfair ambassador, will respond to selected messages weekly across Betfair channels from next week, following England’s warm-up fixtures.
The campaign’s launch gained wider attention after one caller questioned whether Shearer should be viewed as a Premier League great, citing his single league title and his eight-game spell as Newcastle United manager in 2009, which ended in relegation.
Betfair Ambassador Alan Shearer said: “That’s one Premier League title more than you.”
The exchange underlined the campaign’s format, which relies on fan-generated football debate rather than standard odds-led advertising.
For betting operators, major football tournaments remain among the most active periods for customer acquisition, retention and content marketing. The 2026 World Cup is also expected to increase operator spending across ambassador campaigns, social video, betting explainers and tournament hubs.
Betfair has used Shearer as part of its football content output throughout the season, including regular opinion pieces around the Premier League and England’s preparations for the World Cup.
The operator is part of Flutter Entertainment, whose global strategy combines international brands with market-specific football partnerships.
Last month, Flutter Brazil used Betnacional and Betfair sponsorships during the Brazilian Northeast Cup semi-finals to promote responsible gaming messaging, tying football visibility to user protection tools and regulated-market positioning.
The Hot Take Hotline is open on 0800-707-4073, with selected voicemails to be answered across Betfair channels
