The Star Entertainment Group has appointed Ameet Patel as Dual Chief Executive Officer of The Star Brisbane and The Star Gold Coast, subject to regulatory approvals, marking a significant addition to the company's leadership team.
Patel will oversee two of The Star's most important integrated resort properties, bringing decades of experience in gaming, hospitality and operational management to the role. His appointment comes as the company continues to strengthen its leadership structure and focus on long-term business stability.
Throughout his career, Patel has held senior positions with Bally’s Corporation, Penn National and Sun International. He has led gaming operations across multiple jurisdictions and developed expertise in strategic growth, operational performance, financial management and workforce development within highly regulated environments.
The Star Entertainment Group CEO & Managing Director Bruce Mathieson Jr said, “We look forward to working with Ameet as we continue to strengthen our leadership capability across The Star.”
Patel's appointment is one of the most significant leadership moves made by The Star in recent months and reflects the company's focus on bringing experienced executives into key operational roles.
The company has also appointed veteran gaming executive Grant Bowie as a Board Observer, with plans for him to become a Non-Executive Director once all regulatory and ministerial approvals are received. Bowie brings more than 40 years of experience across tourism, hospitality and gaming, including senior roles with Hilton Hotels, Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts.
The leadership changes come during a period of significant reform for The Star. Earlier this month, the NSW Independent Casino Commission imposed penalties totalling AU$10m ($7.2m) and required the company to establish an additional AU$5m remediation fund to strengthen financial crime controls and compliance systems.
The sanctions followed investigations into compliance shortcomings involving anti-money laundering controls, loyalty programme practices, gambling time limit breaches and excluded patron management.
Patel has held senior leadership roles across Australia, Africa and the United States with major gaming and hospitality operators
