The Star Entertainment Group has appointed Grant Bowie as a Board Observer and intends for him to join the Board as a Non-Executive Director once all regulatory and ministerial approvals have been obtained.
The Australian operator announced the appointment in an ASX filing on 16 April. It said Bowie would first serve as an Observer to the Board before formally taking up the Non-Executive Director role, subject to the required clearances.
The move adds another senior governance appointment at a time when The Star continues to reshape its leadership and oversight structure. The filing did not specify a start date for Bowie’s full Board role beyond the approvals process.
Bowie brings more than 40 years of experience across tourism, gaming and hospitality. The Star said he began his career in finance and later held roles in public accounting and consulting across New Zealand, the United States and Australia.
He then spent 16 years with Hilton Hotels Corporation in Australia in several executive positions. During the final five years of that period, he oversaw Australian gaming and hospitality operations on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane.
In 2003, Bowie moved to Macau and went on to work for Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts. According to The Star, those roles included responsibility for overall leadership, management, strategic development and expansion.
The Star Chairman, Soo Kim, said: “I would like to welcome Grant to the Board and look forward to working with him to assist in delivering our strategic objectives and creating a sustainable future for The Star.”
The appointment signals a continued focus on Board composition as the operator navigates regulatory scrutiny in Australia. While the announcement did not set out further governance changes, it places another experienced gaming executive into The Star’s leadership structure, pending approval from the relevant authorities.
Earlier this week, The Star made another senior governance move with the appointment of David Schollenberger as Chief Risk Officer. That promotion followed his move into a legal and AML-focused leadership role, underlining the operator’s focus on risk, compliance and oversight amid tighter regulatory requirements in Australia.
Bowie previously held senior roles with Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts in Macau after overseeing gaming and hospitality operations in Australia for Hilton
