China and Myanmar have reaffirmed their commitment to combating online gambling, telecom fraud and other cross-border crimes following high-level talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing in Beijing. During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening security cooperation and protecting the interests of citizens in both countries.
As reported by Macao Daily, Xi called for continued joint action against online gambling operations, telecom fraud networks and drug trafficking activities that threaten public safety and regional stability.
Xi said both countries should maintain close coordination in law enforcement efforts while enhancing cooperation under broader bilateral initiatives, including the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. He also expressed China's support for Myanmar's reconstruction and development efforts while highlighting the need for stable security conditions to facilitate economic growth and improve livelihoods.
Online gambling and telecom scam syndicates operating in parts of Myanmar have drawn increased attention from regional authorities in recent years, prompting a series of joint crackdowns involving Chinese and Myanmar law enforcement agencies. The issue has become a key component of bilateral security discussions.
Min Aung Hlaing reiterated Myanmar's commitment to working closely with China to eliminate online gambling and telecom fraud activities. He said Myanmar would continue efforts to safeguard border security and protect Chinese businesses and personnel operating within the country.
The Myanmar leader also expressed support for deeper economic cooperation and pledged to advance development of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, a flagship infrastructure and connectivity initiative under the Belt and Road framework.
Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements covering transportation, public welfare and other areas of mutual interest.
The renewed commitment highlights the growing emphasis both governments are placing on combating transnational crime while strengthening economic and strategic cooperation across the region.
Cross-border scam operations and illegal online gambling activities along the China-Myanmar border have been a major focus of regional enforcement efforts in recent years
