The Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner (GGC) has issued a formal caution to Platinum Gaming following the operator's £10m penalty from the GB Gambling Commission in October 2025.
The dual-licensed operator, which runs Unibet.co.uk, faced enforcement action primarily related to social responsibility failures in Great Britain and a limited number of anti-money laundering system deficiencies identified in 2023.
According to the public statement released on 13 November 2025, the Gibraltar regulator found no specific evidence of money laundering or criminal spend, though the cases revealed inadequate due diligence regarding accumulated deposit levels and risk assessment approaches.
These deposit trigger issues had previously been raised by the GGC.
Subsequently, the regulator opted against imposing an additional financial penalty, citing several factors; the historical nature of the 2023 failings, the substantial penalty already levied by the GBGC and documented improvements to the operator's systems and controls.
The 21-month investigation period between the initial site visit and case completion was also noted.
Despite avoiding further financial sanctions, the Commissioner emphasised that the circumstances affect Platinum Gaming's fitness and propriety as a licence holder and impact Gibraltar's regulatory reputation.
The operator remains licensed in Gibraltar, with authorities considering it fit and proper following demonstrated improvements to its anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and customer protection framework systems.
The statement serves as a reminder to dual-licensed operators of their obligation to comply with regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions. Gibraltar's regulator confirmed it will review circumstances whenever a licence holder faces sanctions elsewhere, with further enforcement action remaining possible.
The formal caution will remain on record and may be considered in future assessments should further issues arise
