Sigma Derby’s move was celebrated with a small parade, featuring miniature horses and the UNLV Marching Band

The final Sigma Derby horse racing game in Las Vegas has moved from the D Las Vegas to Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, celebrated with a small parade featuring miniature horses, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Marching Band and city officials.

Golden Gate Hotel & Casino Owner and CEO Derek Stevens addressed the move, having said, "Sigma Derby is more than just a game, it's a piece of Las Vegas history. There's no better place for it than Golden Gate.

“As the original hotel in Las Vegas, Golden Gate has spent more than a century preserving the stories, traditions and experiences that helped shape this city. Sigma Derby belongs in that legacy, and we're excited to give it a home where longtime fans and future generations can continue enjoying it for years to come."

The Sigma Derby horse racing game originally debuted during the 1980s and offers the chance to place coin wagers on miniature horses as they race around a circular track.

Maintaining similar historical status in Las Vegas, Golden Gate Hotel & Casino launched in 1906 as Hotel Nevada, remaining as the city’s oldest operating hotel and casino property.

On June 22, Vegas Golden Knights and AFC Bournemouth Owner Bill Foley unveiled plans to launch an ownership bid for a potential National Basketball Association (NBA) expansion franchise, which could result in offers between $7-10bn.

The Las Vegas NBA franchise would play its home games at T-Mobile Arena, which also hosts the Golden Knights and debuted in April 2016.

According to Foley, the ownership bid will include "a limited number of strategic and minority partners,” selected based upon "alignment with the franchise's long-term vision and for their fit under league ownership policy."

The NBA Board of Governors originally approved a vote to explore bids and applicants for expansion franchises in March, with Las Vegas and Seattle remaining as the likeliest outcomes after all 30 franchise owners voted in favor of both.
