Maryland Lottery and Gaming has reported the state’s total sports betting activity for August 2026, as operators managed to generate $35.2m of revenue during the monthly period, equating to a decrease of 22.6%.
Online wagering operations accounted for the vast majority of sports betting revenue in Maryland after producing nearly $34.7m for August but still reported a decrease of 21.5% year-over-year.
Retail sports betting accounted for just $544,916 of the state’s sports betting revenue for August, representing a decrease of 59.9%.
Despite the fall in sports betting revenue during August, Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported an increase in the state’s total handle, which rose 7.3% from the prior year period to just over $465.9m.
Mobile wagering managed to produce $458.8m of the total handle for August and increased 7.5%, while retail sports betting operations accounted for $7.1m of handle and decreased by 6.2%.

How has the state's sports betting revenue changed throughout the year?
Sports betting operators currently licensed in Maryland submitted just over $7m in tax payments for August. Under state law, 15% of retail and online sports betting revenue is issued to Maryland's Blueprint Fund, while an additional 5% of mobile revenue is contributed to the General Fund.
Maryland Lottery and Gaming also reported the state’s total casino activity for August 2026 on September 8, as commercial operators combined to generate $160m of revenue from slot machines and table games, representing a decrease of 6%.
MGM National Harbor – despite generating the most revenue of any casino property located in Maryland for August – reported a decrease of 5.1% to $66.5m. The MGM Resorts International property was followed by Live! Casino & Hotel, which produced $56.7m and fell 10.2%.
