The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has reported the total commercial gaming activity for Detroit’s three commercial gaming properties during August, as adjusted gross revenue (AGR) reached $109.7m, equating to growth of 2.6%.
For slot machine and table game activity in Detroit, the verticals combined to generate $108.9m, representing an increase of 3%. MGM Grand Detroit led all properties with $52.9m, having risen 2.3% year-over-year.
While MotorCity Casino & Hotel accounted for nearly $33.8m of the city’s total slot machine and table game revenue and increased 8.3%, Hollywood Casino at Greektown reported a 2.6% decrease to $22.2m.
The three commercial gaming properties reported $876,492 of retail sports betting AGR for August, equating to a decrease of 30.4%. Hollywood Casino at Greektown produced the most retail sports betting AGR with $342,921, while MotorCity was close behind with $262,761.

While slot machine and table game revenue worked in MGM Grand Detroit’s favor, retail sports betting accounted for just $258,231 of the property’s total AGR for August, as fantasy contest operators managed to generate $481,406 in Detroit during the monthly period.
Detroit’s retail sports betting handle rose 6% to just over $7.2m, while the casinos paid $32,656 in state taxes and $39,913 in wagering taxes for August activity.
The city’s three commercial properties also submitted $8.8m in state gaming taxes during August, on top of $17.1m in total wagering taxes and development fees to the City of Detroit.
On September 10, Robinhood Markets formed an agreement with the MGCB to pull its sports-related event contracts until litigation regarding prediction markets legality across the state has been decided upon.
Currently – Robinhood, Coinbase and Kalshi are awaiting rulings from the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, while Attorney General Dana Nessel was recently granted a second preliminary injunction against Kalshi to forbid sports-related event contract trading.
On August 25, the Michigan Lottery chose to extend its partnership agreement with Instant Win Gaming through July 2032, continuing to provide the organization with its portfolio of eInstant titles
